A the junction of ancient roads and pilgrimage routes and today of the A75 motorway and N9 trunk road, in the 12th century this was a Templar holding. Situated at the heart of the rich Plain of the Temple, the Templars made the most of its strategic situation as a communication hub leading to the south and the embarkation ports for the Holy Land.
Its architectural heritage having much suffered during the Wars of Religion (16th century) the village is in the proces of being restored, so that it can take its rightful place in the presentation of the significant achievements of the Military Orders.
To be sure not to miss any aspect of this renaissance, go to the Tourist Information Point and follow a guided visit which will reveal the hidden face of La Cavalerie, its past and its future.
